The Minnesota River has begun to flow into Winkel Park in Chaska. By Sunday, the river may crest at about 6 feet over flood stage in Chaska. (This compares with the March 24 crest, where the river crested 11.90 feet above flood stage.)
St. John's Lutheran Church packed its gymnasium during a service commemorating its 125th anniversary on Sunday. The Rev. Kenneth Klaus, The Lutheran Hour speaker and former St. John's pastor, gave the sermon. The service included a procession of items reflecting the history of the church -- including a cross from the altar of the original church building.
On Thursday, artist Rick Kochenash, of Chaska, hit the street -- Second Street -- to paint a watercolor of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church steeple. Residents may spot Kochenash around downtown as he paints landscapes for upcoming shows, including his second show at the Chaska Community Center, Nov. 1 to Dec. 4. Dachshund Gracie Lou Freebusch took second place in her heat of the June 20 Father’s Day Weiner Dog Races at Canterbury Park.
