  • Deadwood, Minnesota?

It's hard to take a photo that does justice to the logjam at the Carver railroad bridge. The logs appear to be piled 1-1/2 stories high in the middle of the Minnesota River. It's certainly bigger than the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's recently installed "Uff da Palace," which is constructed of willow branches. With the floodwaters long gone, maybe this could work as Carver's next big tourist attraction. Any ideas what this "sculpture" should be called?

  • Memorial Day

Members of the Chaska VFW Post 1791 Auxiliary participate in Memorial Day services in City Square Park on Monday. Hundreds of people participated in or attended the cemetery visits, parade and ceremony. The local VFW and Legion posts organized the annual event.

  • 100 bikes registered

The Chaska Police Department’s May 18 bike registration at Tommy’s Old-Fashioned Malt Shop was a “huge success,” reports Community Partnership Specialist/Chaska Police Officer Julie Janke. The Police Department partnered with the malt shop, which provide a free malt to every child who registered their bike. One hundred bikes were registered, Janke said. Kids Dance provided music and entertainment, and the police department sold 15 bike helmets worth $22.95 for $10. (Helmets are still available for purchase at the department, call (952) 442-4200 for more information.)
