Scoreboard

“Beautiful small-town America with a strong sense of community,” was the winning entry in the city’s recent “Best Reasons to Live and Work in Chaska Contest.”
This and 36 “honorable mention” entries are listed here.
Personally, I’m partial to the one “Herald” shout-out. Thanks!
However, I thought the best way to analyze these entries was a “by the numbers” approach, so here goes:
37: Number of entries listed
10: Maximum number of words allowed in this contest
7: Use of the word “community” (not including Chaska Community Center)
6: References to the city’s golf opportunities
3: Mentioning “History” or “Historical”
3: References to the city’s trail system
3: References to diversity
2: Referencing the Minnesota River or levee
2: Number of liquor stores mentioned by name
2: References to the Chaska Community Center
1: Number of entries that brag of the city’s humbleness
1: Mentioning the city's wireless Internet system
1: Usage of the word “suburban”

We chose to live here...
Back to page topWe chose to live here because it was close to my new job in Chan, but the houses were more affordable. Now that we have been here almost three years, we have fallen in love with the small town feel of the community, and enjoy being close to the cities. River City days is great, the concerts in the park, the community center, great neighbors, fablous schools. I can't say enough good things about what moving here has done for my family. We thank God every day for bringing us here.
Thanks for your thoughts. I...
Back to page topThanks for your thoughts. I think many people share your opinions -- especially regarding the small-town feel.
I'm always curious as to what creates that "small town" feeling. Obviously Chaska isn't a small town, but it generates that perception.
Two more questions for readers:
What do you think makes a "small town"?
And
Was it Chaska that brought you here or, like toricla, was it something else (like a good deal on a home or a shorter commute)?
