Tim Craig snapped this shot of the beautiful flowering tree outside his Carver home earlier today. "This tree is like this for two days a year if it’s not windy and raining," he wrote "Today was Day 2!" Have a spectacular shot of spring to share? Email [email protected].

After another hiccup, the windmill is back online again and spinning like crazy with today's wind. According to the most recent city hall bulletin, last week, one of the spoilers experienced a leakage of hydraulic fluid. The valve was immediately closed off to stop the leaking, but there is still work that requires a boom truck to come in and complete repairs. This is part of the commissioning process MMPA is going through to address any issues with each of the 12 turbines in the system to get them fully functional. (Photo by Mollee Francisco)
Now that the Minnesota River floodwaters have receded far enough to give access to Athletic Park, Public Works employees are gearing up to begin cleaning up. A muddy parking lot gives way to silt covered tunnels, bathrooms and bleachers. Public Works Superintendent Tim Wiebe said that the first four rows of the grandstand was under water when the river crested. The high water also left its mark on the side of the building, making it easy to identify how this flood ranks with the four highest floods of the last 100 years. (Photo by Mollee Francisco)
MnDOT workers Dave Malchow and Dave Schevenius use a large drill to take soil borings below Highway 41, just south of the Minnesota River bridge, on Monday afternoon. Lisa Davis and Paul Szurek were also on the team, checking whether the roadbed, under the asphalt, was dry enough to drive on. The moisture levels appeared to be low, according to Szurek. However, the data is being sent to MnDOT engineers and analyzed. Before the road opens, crews will also need to patch the road and replace shoulder gravel that washed away, leaving a drop-off ranging from 6 inches to a foot in some places.
