Last year we didn't have to endure the sapfest that is Idol Gives Back. This year, we won't be so lucky. To cap it off, the Idols will be singing inspirational schlock. Is anyone actually looking forward to this theme? Warning: If I hear "Wind Beneath My Wings" by anyone, I'm turning off the television. The bad memories of that song ending every junior high dance I ever attended, are still far too strong. So what would I like to hear the contestants sing? Well, I've perused the 77-song list on iTunes and my suggestions follow (Thank you for asking).
Crystal Bowersox - If Crystal doesn't jump the list I could totally hear her with Jewel's "Hands." That seems perfectly suited to her. But for a bit of fun, she could surprise us with David Bowie's "Changes" or The Pretenders' "I'll Stand By You."
Lee Dewyze - Lots for Lee to pick from on the iTunes list like Robbie Williams' "Angels," or "Better Days" by The Goo Goo Dolls. Since he's a Simon and Garfunkel fan, he might opt for "The Boxer." Clay Aiken apparently owns the Idol franchise on "Bridge Over Troubled Water" so I'd steer clear of that.
Casey James - Switchfoot's "Dare You To Move" would be a great fit for Casey's voice but he may gravitate toward Bon Jovi's guitar-fun "Livin' On A Prayer" instead or dance with danger on Queen's "We Are The Champions." He could also vie for "I'll Stand By You."
Aaron Kelly - I'd like him to skip over the country songs on the list and tackle Michael Bolton's "Go The Distance." I think he could make it work.
Michael Lynche - Still rooting for him to pick The Impressions' "People Get Ready" (will someone please sing this song already?!?). Second choice, "Everyday People" by Sly and the Family Stone.
Siobahn Magnus - As the only big pipes left in the contest, the expectations should be high for Siobahn with this particular song list. I like Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero" for her a lot. If she wanted to take on a big ballad, I'd be willing to listen to her take on Celine Dion on either "My Heart Will Go On" or "The Prayer."
Tim Urban - I see only one option - Carolina Liar's "Show Me What I'm Looking For."
