Online FORUM: "Three Cups of Tea"

"Three Cups of Tea" is an inspiring story of one man's mission to
promote peace by building schools in the remote regions of Pakistan and
Afghanistan. It's the featured book for the February "Community Reads"
program.

Pick up a copy of the book at the Chanhassen or Chaska libraries, read it, and join the discussion.

No election for the Jonathan Association

The Jonathan Association will not have an election again this year. Only two association members indicated an interest in the three open board seats at the annual meeting Thursday night.

Jim Battenberg, of Neighborhood Eight, will return to his seat on the board. He will be joined by David Snodgrass, of Clover Ridge. Both men were approved by the board's nominating committee Thursday.

Jonathan Association President Nate Bostrom said that the board will continue to look for someone to fill the remaining open seat.

Rotary celebrates service above self

On a warm June day in 1961, 21 men gathered in the auditorium at Guardian Angels Catholic Church for the opening meeting of the Chaska Rotary.

Dr. Thomas Sutcliffe was among those founding members.

“It was a warm month, there was no air conditioning there,” he recalled. “And all the women were dressed to the nines.”

Nearly five decades later, Sutcliffe is the sole holdout from that group to remain a member of the rotary.

“We had a high drop out rate that first year,” he said. “We got down to 12 members.”

Narrating a new musical chapter

By Unsie Zuege

Director Bill Coldwell cast Megan Tornquist as the Narrator in the current Chaska Valley Family Theatre musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” in part, because “What you see on stage isn’t a result of anything I did directing her. It’s her natural ability to tell a story in a fun, easy-going manner.”

Theater-goers may recognize her as “Maria” from CVFT’s “The Sound of Music” from a couple seasons ago. Tornquist, 25, lives in Chaska with husband, Pete, and teaches at East Union Elementary School.
