Some time between Aug. 25 and Sept. 1 there were numerous headstones overturned and other damage caused during a vandal spree and rampage through St. John’s cemetery in Norwood Young America, according to a Carver County Sheriff’s Office report.
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety is urging motorists to “see yellow” and be ready to respond to school buses and student pedestrians as school resumes in Minnesota.
The Minnesota State Patrol has arrested 163 motorists for DWI during a statewide impaired driving enforcement campaign that started Aug. 20 and runs through Labor Day.
The State Patrol arrested 60 motorists during the first weekend of enforcement and another 64 this past weekend, Aug. 27-29, according to a State Patrol press release.
Arrest results from around 400 participating agencies will be available in mid-September. A similar statewide DWI enforcement effort in 2009 resulted in 1,873 DWI arrests.
Carver County Attorney Jim Keeler announced today that a Carver County jury found Daniel Reid Farrington, 25,of Chaska, guilty of fleeing police in a high speed chase that occurred on Highway 212 in Chanhassen and into Eden Prairie on April 3.
According to a press release, the Carver County Attorney’s Office charged Farrington with two counts of Fleeing a Peace Officer, Obstructing Legal Process, Reckless Driving, Speeding and Driving with Expired Registration in Chanhassen.
Chaska Police Chief Scott Knight is featured as an activist on the “Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence” website.
Knight has long been an activist of tightening gun laws. On the site, he notes: "It's personal … A few years ago, one of my officers was shot in the line of duty. And last May, another officer, an uncle to one of my sergeants, was ambushed, shot and killed."

In July, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office clocked a speeder driving 107 mph. That placed the driver at the fourth highest illegal speed clocked in the state during that month.
Here are the highest speeds:
Wadena County Sheriff’s Office — 178 mph (speed was self-reported by vehicle’s passenger).
Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office — 128 mph.
Lakeville Police Department — 109 mph.
Carver County Sheriff’s Office — 107 mph.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office — 106 mph.
The first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) disease for 2010 in a Minnesota resident has been confirmed, according to a Minnesota Department of Health press release.
State health officials are reminding Minnesotans to protect themselves from mosquitoes from now through September. A Yellow Medicine County man is the state’s first laboratory-confirmed WNV case of the year. He was hospitalized with West Nile encephalitis in late July.
Composite sketchThe Carver County Sheriff’s Office is providing follow-up information related to the daytime burglaries that occurred on July 12 in Laketown, Benton, and San Francisco townships.
According to Chaska Police a recent e-mail is circulating, which warns Chaska residents about a male who “almost attacked” a female runner, at 5 a.m. on Aug. 2, in the area of Isabella Parkway and Pioneer Trail. The e-mail reports that a “… man dressed in black from head to toe… was hiding [and] jumped out of [a tree line] and went after [the runner]… [the runner] sprinted away… [and the male] went back into the trees.]”
Police say that while the intent of the e-mail is pure, it is not factual.
