There’s something in the water in Clover Ridge – or at least one might presume by the caravan of diaper bags and car seats headed into Angie Kubik’s home last week.
In the last six months, 10 babies have been born to women on and around Grimm Road. This was no pregnancy pact, laughed Sarah Heyer, but more of a happy coincidence. The group of moms and kids now try to get together once a month to catch up with one another and see how much the little ones are growing.
“This neighborhood is really tight knit,” said Heyer, mom to baby No. 2 Natalie.
“We’re mommy friends and they’re baby friends,” said Sarah Bot, mom to baby No. 4 Luke.
While some of the women were friends before the baby bumps began to appear, they are now all joined by a common bond of motherhood. Their get-togethers reflect that with plenty of diaper changings, mouth wipings and feedings to go round.
After baby No. 5 Myah was born in January, the moms and moms-to-be started getting together on a monthly basis.
“We’ve really bonded as moms,” said Heyer.
“We need it,” agreed Bot.
Though fellow Grimm Road neighbor Kubik is done having children, she has participated in the group by making each of the babies a special onesie delineating their sex – blue for boys and pink for girls – and their birth number. She had made nine – six pink ones and three blue ones – as of last Friday.
Over the weekend, Kubik got a chance to make her 10th onesie – a pink one for Briella Jones, born March 21 to Brenda Buckley-Jones and Casey Jones.
The rest of the group will look forward to meeting baby No. 10 at their next get-together. In the meantime, the moms are enjoying the time they get to spend with one another now, not knowing when that next meet up might occur.
“Eight out of the 10 of us are working moms,” explained Heyer. “But we want to continue it.”
And if the lack of fussing is any indication, the Clover Ridge babies are in full agreement.
