Rolling Stone teamed up with its readers to choose the top 25 greatest slow dance songs. They are:

2. “Unchained Melody,” The Righteous Brothers
3. “Crazy For You,” Madonna
4. “Take My Breath Away,” Berlin
5. “I Only Have Eyes for You,” The Flamingos

7. “In Your Eyes” Peter Gabriel
8. “Love Song,” The Cure
9. “Eternal Flame,” The Bangles
10. “I’ll Be There,” The Jackson 5
11. “Always and Forever,” Heat Wave
12. “Fade Into You,” Mazzy Star
13. “I’ll Make Love To You,” Boyz II Men
14. “Faithfully,” Journey
15. “Wild Horses,” The Rolling Stones
16. “True Colors,” Cyndi Lauper
17. “How Deep Is Your Love,” The Bee Gees
18. “I’ll Be There For You,” Bon Jovi
19. “Drive,” The Cars
20. “Babe,” Styx
21. “Careless Whisper,” Wham!
22. “Save a Prayer,” Duran Duran
23. “Lady In Red,” Chris de Burgh
24. “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” Olivia Newton-John
25. “In the Mouth a Desert,” Pavement

I'm going to go ahead and give a thumbs up to The Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes For You," Mazzy Star's " and "Fade Into You," Journey's "Faithfully." Now those are some songs to slow dance to.

On the other hand, Olivia Newton John's "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" belong on another list - something that captures overplayed and annoying songs.

"At Last" by Etta James is one of my favorite slow dance songs, and her 1961 recording is not much older than "Unchained Melody". I'm not sure what cut-off date Rolling Stone used for this list, but there were some great torch songs from several R&B artists in the 50's.

Back in the pre-disco 70's, about the only slow dancing we got in was the first half of "Free Bird".

I must agree with Zeke Baby, "At Last" is a great slow dance song! However, one must not forget "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton.

What's up with Rolling Stone and their lists. It seems like everytime I turn around they're categorizing and ranking music. Oh, and I would cross off most of those songs, but especially LUNGE WORTHY (songs that make you lunge to change stations)are "I'll Make Love To You" Boyz II Men and "I'll Be There for You" Bon Jovi. "AT LAST" by Etta James is better than any of those listed and "Wonderful Tonight" Eric Clapton is my favorite to slow dance to.

Freebird ... definitely Freebird. That long slow music-turned awkward "what do I do during the fast part"- song was THE ultimate slow dance favorite from my first 7th grade dance in the school cafeteria to the "last chance dance" at Matters' Ballroom when I graduated from college. It was a great boyfriend/girlfriend slow song, but also a good option if you were stuck dancing with someone you were less than crazy about - the fast part could quickly get you out of an unwanted embrace!

Jennyjean: "Wonderful Tonight" was played at my wedding. I couldn't stomach dancing to "Can I Have This Dance For the Rest of My Life?" - the preferred first song at wedding dances in my hometown.

Thank goodness Chicago's Color My World isn't included.
Worst song ever written, and every band that played high school dances in the 70's would play it.
Please...give me a root canel istead of making me listen to that song!

Where is Chicago,...

Where is Chicago, "Inspiration" on that list, and how does one slow dance to freebird? It appears to me that the slow songs don't change much from generation to generation. "Wonderful Tonight" will be my first dance at my October nuptials. Thank goodness "If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, never make an ugly women you wife," didn't make the list. By the way, does anyone know the artist of that song?

Bridge over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel) was one of my favorites for slow dancing back when I was in school.
