Last summer's PGA tournament at Hazeltine National Golf Course in Chaska brought in approximately $50 million to the surrounding area.
This article alludes that Bloomington and its barrage of hotels probably saw the biggest benefit during the golf extravaganza. It also notes that Bloomington will likely benefit again in 2016 when the Ryder Cup comes to Hazeltine.

For once, we get an Idol episode devoted almost solely to the singing and the girls - for the most part - fail to take advantage. Although there were some solid performances, there was nothing that gave goosebumps or was fodder for chit-chat around the water cooler. Maybe the boys will provide more interesting performances tomorrow night. Until then...

The Carver City Council will be discussing a big topic on Monday night – where to locate its city hall.
It has pondered a handful of choices over the years, and now it has one more to add to the list.

District 112 is in the midst of seeking cost savings measures for the 2010-11 budget, with the hope of preserving class size standards.
In January, the school board directed a District 112 budget committee to find approximately $1 million in reductions for the upcoming budget. Two items have surfaced as possibilities to investigate to provide a portion of those reductions. The first possibility is reducing the staffing level for the district’s school resource officers.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of fish.
Minnesota doesn’t have its own Declaration of Independence, but if it did, there’s no doubt that the unalienable rights would include fishing.
However, some local residents worry that seniors are missing out on the action. So a group of volunteers and the Chaska Parks and Recreation Department, is starting a “Let’s Go Fishing with Seniors” Chaska chapter.
Each week we publish a detail of a local building.

The two sides working on a new contract for District 112 teachers have set March 23 to resume negotiations. Members representing both District 112 and the Chaska Education Association (CEA) have not met since a proposed contract was rejected by teachers in early January.
Cash lifted from a pair of pants lying on the bleachers. iPods snatched out of backpacks. Cell phones swiped from the tops of lockers.
Over the last month a dozen thefts at Chaska High School have been reported to police. The bump in thefts at the school was recently reported by the CHS newspaper, Hawk Herald, and is keeping school resource officer (SRO) Mike Kleber busier than usual.
“Theft is a problem up there,” said Chaska Police Detective Sgt. Jon Kehrberg. “Not just this year, but for whatever reason, our SROs have been making a lot of reports in the last 30 days.”
Auburn Manor became the focus of an investigation by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) after a patient suffered facial burns while smoking last fall. The care facility in downtown Chaska was ultimately cited for neglect.
Wayne Ward, administrator at Auburn Manor, said that they had been working to implement changes following the incident. “It was really unfortunate,” he said. “We felt really bad.”
So when will the judges get the memo to stop hating on the contestants? Not that their dislike is entirely misplaced, but for a show as popular as American Idol is, it’s bad form to keep telling the audience week after week that the contestants aren’t doing good enough. Eventually the audience realizes you’re right and finds something else to watch.
The following obituaries are from the March 4, 2010 print edition of the Chaska Herald newspaper:
We’re back at it this week, weeding out the weak and vetting the contestants to the world of pop music. A medical issue (a complication with Crystal Bowersox's diabetes, according to the blogosphere) has forced Idol producers to flip flop the guys and gals so we kick off the second week of the semifinals with the dudes.
From the outset, it appears that "makeovers" were the name of the game between episodes. Michael Lynche got in touch with his soul. Todrick vowed not to go all space age with his song arrangements. Even Ellen got in on the fun.

A public meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 15, to provide information to the community about a Level III sex offender who has recently moved to Chanhassen, according to a release from the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.
The individual who is identified has been convicted of criminal sexual conduct, which requires registration with law enforcement pursuant to Minnesota Statute 243.166. The Risk Level of III has been assigned to this offender based largely on his potential to reoffend and his previous criminal behavior.
