For years, casual conversation in Carver has included speculation about where the future city hall will reside: downtown in a new or remodeled building; in the soon-to-be-abandoned water-treatment plant; or “up on the hill,” near the County Road 11 and Highway 212 intersection.
Suddenly, those casual conversations have become urgent, thanks to a proposed Carver County Community Development Agency development on County Road 11 and Ironwood Drive.

When it comes to getting their Chaska home sold, the Teskey family is pulling out all the stops.
They’ve interviewed numerous realtors to find the one best suited to sell their Schoolmaster Drive home. They’ve brought in a stager to make sure the house looks top notch. They’re working on a video montage to give buyers scouring the Internet a good reason to schedule a viewing. And they’re even planning to employ a new kind of “For Sale” sign that includes photos of the interior of their home.
Ralph Lindemeier, 77, known to many of those who loved him as “Papa Ralph,” passed away at his home in Bozeman, MT, on Monday, March 8, 2010.
A memorial service, with lunch to follow, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Zion Lutheran Church, 14735 County Road 153, Cologne.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

After a wintry traffic accident left its 25-year-old fire engine out of service, the city of Carver is now on the hunt for a new truck. But it won’t come cheap. A new rescue fire engine could cost taxpayers up to a half million dollars.
On March 1, the Carver City Council moved to solicit bids for a replacement fire truck. Whether they buy new or buy used, will depend on what kind of bids they get back, Mayor Jim Weygand said. A new truck, ranging from $450,000 to $500,000 would raise the taxes on a $250,000 home by $22.

In late October, the District 112 school board released funds to pay for approximately four-and-a-half additional teachers to reduce class sizes at local secondary schools. Officials at each school were able to put the money to use, but had to rely on different means to accomplish that goal.
The following obituary is from the March 11, 2010 print edition of the Chaska Herald newspaper:
Last summer's PGA tournament at Hazeltine National Golf Course in Chaska brought in approximately $50 million to the surrounding area.
This article alludes that Bloomington and its barrage of hotels probably saw the biggest benefit during the golf extravaganza. It also notes that Bloomington will likely benefit again in 2016 when the Ryder Cup comes to Hazeltine.

For once, we get an Idol episode devoted almost solely to the singing and the girls - for the most part - fail to take advantage. Although there were some solid performances, there was nothing that gave goosebumps or was fodder for chit-chat around the water cooler. Maybe the boys will provide more interesting performances tomorrow night. Until then...

The Carver City Council will be discussing a big topic on Monday night – where to locate its city hall.
It has pondered a handful of choices over the years, and now it has one more to add to the list.
The Carver County Community Development Agency has proposed a joint housing/city hall development for the city of Carver, to be located at the County Road 11 and Ironwood Drive intersection, near Highway 212.
Six candidates have been named semi-finalists in the search for a new superintendent.
According to a District 112 newsletter, they include:
* Dr. Julia Espe, Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, St. Cloud Public Schools
* Dr. Dan Bittman, Director of Elementary and Secondary Education, Centennial School District
* Dr. Christine Weymouth, Assistant Superintendent, Farmington Public Schools * Corey Lunn, Superintendent, Montgomery-Lonsdale Public Schools

District 112 is in the midst of seeking cost savings measures for the 2010-11 budget, with the hope of preserving class size standards.
In January, the school board directed a District 112 budget committee to find approximately $1 million in reductions for the upcoming budget. Two items have surfaced as possibilities to investigate to provide a portion of those reductions. The first possibility is reducing the staffing level for the district’s school resource officers.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of fish.
Minnesota doesn’t have its own Declaration of Independence, but if it did, there’s no doubt that the unalienable rights would include fishing.
However, some local residents worry that seniors are missing out on the action. So a group of volunteers and the Chaska Parks and Recreation Department, is starting a “Let’s Go Fishing with Seniors” Chaska chapter.
