It may be under water now, but Athletic Park is already slated to see some action in May.
The St. Paul Saints will continue a three-year tradition of playing a local amateur team in its home ballpark, barnstorming their way to Chaska for an exhibition game, according to a press release.
On Saturday, May 8 the Saints will take on the River Valley League All-Stars at Athletic Park in Chaska at 6 p.m.
The following day, Sunday, May 9 the Saints take on the Riverview League All-Stars at Minnetonka Veterans Field at 1 p.m. River Valley League teams will raise money to help with their annual expenses by selling advanced tickets to the game for $5 each (a savings of $2 from the ticket price at the gate).
As part of both these games the Saints will take their show on the road. All of the sights, sounds and humorous moments experienced at Midway Stadium will be captured during these two events.
Mudonna, the Saints two-legged mascot, will bring a smile to kids’ faces, fans can sing along with Saints ushertainer Seigo Masabuchi and the staple of every Saints game, the between-innings promotions, will leave fans laughing in the aisles, the release stated.
The Saints began their barnstorming tour of amateur ballparks in 2008 when they celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Jack Ruhr Field in Miesville taking on the Miesville Midhens. Last year they played at the same field against the Cannon Valley League All-Stars.
The Saints regular season opener is Thursday, May 13 vs. Wichita Wingnuts. Individual tickets will go on sale March 20. For more information or to purchase group or season ticket plans, contact the Saints at 651-644-6659 or visit saintsbaseball.com.

Back to page topI'm trying to think of a Saints-appropriate premium to give out at this game (from the team that brought us the Norm Coleman/Al Franken recount bobblehead and Larry Craig bathroom stall promotions).
Perhaps a snowglobe with little baseball players, bats, balls and gloves floating around.
Sports editor Tim McGovern informed me that the back-up field (in case it's still flooded) is the Chanhassen field.
