Chaska High School ninth-grader Vaughn Hargis died on Saturday, April 3.

On Monday, April 5, Chaska High School Principal David Brecht sent this notice to parents, regarding the steps the school is taking in response to the news:

“I am saddened to inform you that one of our ninth grade students, Vaughn Hargis, died Saturday, April 3. The effect on all of us has been one of sadness. The school is working directly with the family.

“In response to this news, Chaska High School staff met Monday before school, and a brief message was shared with all students in period 1 via their teachers.

“We have brought in support from around the district to assist in dealing with the students' sense of loss and grief. Our Counselors, Administration, and additional support staff have implemented a support system to assist students and staff who need to talk about this loss.

“Our staff is also available to assist you. If you desire information about additional resources, please call the school at 952-556-7101.

“We will be especially aware of students who need to share their feelings today and in the days following. We will provide opportunities either inside or outside the classroom for students to express those feelings. At the same time, their lives and ours must go on despite the sorrow and loss we feel over this tragic event, so classes will continue as scheduled.”
