Workman receives Klein award

» Read similar stories filed under:

Former Chaska Rotary President Dan Workman was presented with the George C. Klein “Service Above Self” Award Saturday night at the annual Chaska Rotary banquet held at the Oak Ridge Conference Center.

The Klein Award is given to individuals that display service above self in the community. This year marks the 31st year of the Klein Award.

Former Mayor Bob Roepke presented Workman with the award Saturday, saying, “He stands among those people who have left an imprint on our community through his actions.”

“You would see Dan at most every Chaska community event,” Roepke continued. “He was a participant, an organizer, an ambassador, a servant of and for our community.”

Workman has served as President of the Chaska Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Chaska Economic Development Authority and the Chaska Planning Commission.

Workman sat on the St. Francis Board of Directors and was a charter member of the Guardian Angels School Board. He also started both the Men’s and Boy’s Breakfast and the Pack-a-Pickup food drive at Guardian Angels.

“Dan was a community leader and as you can see he blended his leadership with his faith which true servants do.”

Workman organized the purchase and acquisition of American flags to be displayed in downtown Chaska. He was also a supporter of the local town team baseball program and a “distinguished member” of the Chaska Bakery Breakfast Club.

“He was filled with pride about his community and he worked hard and long to make it a better place,” said Roepke.

Workman joins an illustrious group of Chaskans including: Caspar Schmitt, Edgar Ziegler, James Faber, Lavonne Barac/Luke Melchert, Lucile Diedrick, Midge Main, Karl Nyline, Dale Diedrick, Tracy Swanson, Robert Roepke, Marvel Heath, Del Ploen, Charles Borak, Marjory Adams, Jeff Burzinski, Rick Ford, Gayle Kincannon, Gary Cooper, Jim Main, Dave Porkorney, Shirley Bruers, Lucie Hartley, Jane & Barry Fox, Barbara Colhapp, Eugene Meuwissen, Robert Lindall, Randy Maluchnik, Florence Olson, Linda & Richard Menzel and Dick Tirk.
