Do you think the Herald will ever report the important information - When will HWY 41 re-open? Numbers and such are fun to look at but c'mon, got anything helpful?!

It will be nice to have Hwy 41 reopen - my 10-minute work commute is now about 45-minutes each way. However, the problem is that MnDOT isn't yet saying when that reopening will occur. And until the water levels drop far enough to allow their engineers to fully inspect the roadway and determine the extent of the damage caused by the recent floodwaters, MnDOT isn't releasing any concrete answers...so no one knows for sure.

I am guessing it could be as long as 10-14 days, based upon the rate at which the water levels are dropping and the amount of drying that must occur before they can bring their heavy equipment onto the roadbed to perform the necessary repairs - but that is just a guess.

Highway 41 reopening is still up in the air, but here's the latest MnDOT statement on the matter (issued yesterday afternoon): "Mn/DOT estimates that it will be a minimum of two weeks before the roadway can be reopened to traffic."

I guess "minimum" is the key word. A "maximum" hasn't been issued -- and cross your fingers for dry weather.
