Chanhassen has built it, and the team is coming.
The Chanhassen Red Birds geared up for their first amateur baseball
season with a gathering of club officials and city leaders on Friday
afternoon at Chanhassen High School.
The ballclub unveiled its team logo, uniform and cap, and introduced its
manager and mascot.
Work has begun to clear out Athletic Park in anticipation of rising flood waters. Athletic Park, the only Chaska property in the 100-year flood plain, hasn't been cleared out since the Minnesota River rose to 14.27 feet above flood stage in 2001. The latest crest is currently predicted to occur next Wednesday at 12.30 feet above flood stage. (Photo by Mollee Francisco)

The Chaska girls basketball team rode a very strong second half to win its state Class 4A quarterfinal 76-57 over St. Francis on Wednesday at Target Center.
The Hawks move on to face No. 1-seeded, No. 1-rated and undefeated Lakeville North at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 18 in the semifinals.
The Panthers, in their first state tournament since the Lakeville district split, powered past Northfield 52-33 on Wednesday morning.
The Chaska girls basketball team led Edina for very little of Friday's Section 2-4A championship game at Chanhassen High School.
But the Hawks picked the right time to lead.
Chaska senior Brooke Brown hit a shot with 15 seconds remaining in the game and senior Ellen Degler sank a free throw with 3 seconds left to lift the Hawks to a 45-43 victory.
Brown finished with 20 points in the game as the Hawks will enter the state Class 4A tournament for the second time in three seasons.
Last summer's PGA tournament at Hazeltine National Golf Course in Chaska brought in approximately $50 million to the surrounding area.
This article alludes that Bloomington and its barrage of hotels probably saw the biggest benefit during the golf extravaganza. It also notes that Bloomington will likely benefit again in 2016 when the Ryder Cup comes to Hazeltine.

Chaska-Chanhassen senior hockey captain Steve Sorensen tangles with Apple Valley's Chris Fischer during the teams' game on Saturday at Victoria Arena. The Storm Hawks wore specially designed jerseys to honor the Red Bulls 34th Infantry division of the National Guard, who were guests at the game. The Storm Hawks have communicated with the Red Bulls during the division's year-long deployment to Iraq, and have sent provisions and gifts to the soldiers and their families.

Rep. Paul Kohls (R-Victoria) introduced a bill Feb. 11 to sell the Metrodome to the Vikings for $1.
“We currently face a $1.2 billion budget deficit. I don’t support using tax dollars to fund a new stadium when so many Minnesotans are struggling,” stated Kohls, in a press release.
“We just can’t afford it, and I’ve never supported using taxpayer dollars for professional stadiums. We do want the Vikings to stay, and this is one way to try to keep the team here.”
John von Walter tees off in the Soggy Bottom Golf Open. The Carver event, sponsored by the Carver Lions and the city of Carver, attracted 30 golfers and 10 volunteers on Saturday who, despite a half inch of rain, had fun golfing in the snow. Chaska golf course architect Kevin Norby (who designed “Carver National”) shot a score of 60, apparently the lowest. Next year’s open is Jan. 22, 2011.

Most days of the week, Ben Theis is just your average 20 year old. He goes to school. He goes to work. He plays with the family pug Phantom. He’s a regular Clark Kent, if you will.
But come game day, the 2007 Chaska High School grad transforms from a regular guy into a caped crusader. Donning royal purple and gold spandex, Theis becomes Superfan, ready to engage crowds and cheer his Minnesota Vikings onto victory at a moment’s notice.
