In the coming year, District 112 officials say they’ll be keeping their eyes on how to best ensure students who get into trouble will be treated equitably and fairly at each of its two high schools.

When there was only Chaska High School, protocol was fairly clear cut in the handling of juvenile misdemeanors.

There was a state-mandated lockdown drill at Chaska High School today that lasted for about 10 minutes, ending by 2:22 p.m., according to a Chaska Police Department alert. (http://local.nixle.com/alert/293228/)

“If this had been a real lockdown event, the Chaska Police Department would provide appropriate updates on the situation as time allows,” the alert stated.

Chaska Police officers have begun to remove peddlers from the Hazeltine National Golf Club area.

When the PGA Championship week began, nearby venders were more in the vein of kids and Kool-Aid stands, “and we just let them ride,” said Chaska Police Chief Scott Knight.

However by Friday, the venders had gotten out of hand. “It’s almost like the state fair,” Knight said.

Two people died aboard a small plane that crashed after taking off from Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie about 11:45 a.m. today

The plane crashed within feet of the historic Cummins/Phipps/Grill house, near the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Flying Cloud Drive. There is no information available on what kind of plane it was. Witnesses said the plane crashed soon after take-off, and the flight was troubled from the start.

According to a press release from the Chaska Police Department "two residents in the Riverview Terrace Mobile Home Park have reported three incidents of privacy invasion/window peeking occurring since July 18. The incidents occurred between 11:00 p.m. and midnight.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 30 years old, black spiky hair and a beard. The suspect climbed on a chair and removed a window screen in one of the incidents.

The Chaska Police Department released this statement pertaining to the emergency sirens that went off this morning:

"The outdoor warning sirens were activated in Chaska moments ago. This was a false alarm. The county is aware…

"The City of Chanhassen is in control of a remote device, which activates the sirens; indeed, the sirens were activated without a legitimate cause. Chanhassen wrongly activated the warning sirens for the cities of Chaska, Victoria, and Watertown. Perplexingly the sirens did not sound in Chanhassen.

It appears unlikely that Chaska will begin using administrative fees to deter petty offenses and relieve the overburdened court system. During its last session, the state legislature gave cities a very limited authority in processing administrative fees.

“This legislation – in my opinion – renders our anticipated use of administrative fines absolutely unproductive and beyond our original intent,” Chaska Police Chief Scott Knight wrote in a June 19 memo to City Administrator Matt Podhradsky.

Chaska Police are on the look out for a 28-year-old man wanted for second-degree assault and terroristic threats.

Police say that on Monday Nery Adalberto Amaya attacked his ex-girlfriend with a knife before turning the weapon on himself and cutting his chest. Amaya then fled the scene, according to police.

Police describe Amaya as a 5'8, 160-pound Hispanic man with brown eyes and black hair. He may be driving a dark-colored 2001 Honda Accord with Minnesota license SMB-663. He may also have severe injuries that require immediate medical attention.
