Summer vacation may be over, the kids may be back in school, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to come to a screeching halt.
This weekend, Carver rolls out the red carpet for its annual Steamboat Days celebration.
“If Labor Day signals the end of summer, Steamboat Days is the beginning of fall,” said Steamboat Days Chair Greg Osterdyk.
Chaska may not be getting a brand new high school like neighboring Chanhassen, but that’s no reason not to cheer the high school it does have.
Just days before the Chaska High School reopens for the new school year, Chaskans will gather to celebrate with a day-long party on Sept. 3.
“Chaska is now one of the few suburban schools (in the metro) whose boundaries are defined by its community,” said City Administrator Matt Podhradsky, who believes that will make Chaska a stronger school.
A little rain didn’t stop families from descending upon the Chaska Community Center last Thursday night for the city’s annual Touch A Truck event.
The crowd gathered around excitedly as the Chaska Fire Department brought in one of their engines and pulled out the ladder and bucket. Kids lined up quickly to sneak a peek inside a Ridgeview Ambulance. And plenty oohed and ahhed over all the buttons to be pushed inside a Chaska Police cruiser.
Gone are the gallery ropes. Gone are the crowds. Gone is the Goodyear blimp. Yes, the 2009 PGA Championship is over.
For almost a week, Chaska was the center of the golf universe as Hazeltine National Golf Club played host to many of the world’s best golf players, all in pursuit of the famed Wanamaker Trophy.
In the end, 37-year-old South Korean Y.E. Yang came from behind to take down Tiger Woods – golf’s most recognizable player – and become the first Asian-born man to claim the trophy.
Chaska's annual Touch-A-Truck event will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Chaska Community Center.
Each year, hundreds of children and their parents flock to the community center parking lot for a chance to get up close and personal with the city's fleet, including snow plows, ambulances, police cars and fire engines.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
Tournament play began Thursday morning at the 2009 PGA Championship. Players hit the links just after 7 a.m. as large crowds filed into Hazeltine. Here are some sights from morning play:

Can't get enough of this year's PGA Championship? Here are more sights and sounds from Hazeltine. Enjoy!

Bringing 50,000 spectators to town is as challenging as the par 4 18th hole at Hazeltine. But Chaska Police Chief Scott Knight believes the security team in place for this year’s PGA Championship is up to the task.

It’s a testament to the volume of PGA Championship volunteers – the PGA needs a group of volunteers just to shuttle around other volunteers.
