Video: Ole & Lena joke contest

Joke tellers were out for blood, or at least for lutefisk, as they faced off in the Nordic Heritage Club’s second annual Ole & Lena last Friday night. (For those new to Minnesota, Ole and Lena jokes are a staple among the Scandinavian population.)

About 25 people attended the event, held at Victoria City Hall, where the club meets the second Friday of the month. Even a joke-off between the animated Ross Hanson and Galen Tongen (members of the Waconia Sons of Norway Lodge) couldn’t settle who won, so first place was declared a tie.

Approximately 283 volunteers converged on eight sites throughout Chaska on May 9 for the annual Christmas in May. During the day-long event volunteers rehabilitated seven homes of community members who face physical or financial restraints. Volunteers also painted the building that houses the non-profit Love INC, located off of Bavaria Road.

It’s not gone yet.

However, since the days are numbered for the McKnight Road bridge, we thought we’d post a few photos of the structure.

Anything that’s been doing its job every day for the past 96 years deserves some praise.
