Lauren Sperling, 11, was more than ready for this haircut. She’d been planning on this particular visit for a couple years. That’s how long it had taken for her hair to grow past shoulder length.
Lauren didn’t hesitate to plop down into the styling chair that had been augmented with a few booster cushions to put her at eye level with Carrie Kukacka, her stylist at Kids’ Hair, in Chanhassen.

Mary Sullivan joined the Scott-Carver-Dakota CAP Agency in 1970.
An elementary teacher, Sullivan was hired to set up the agency’s first child care center. This was an era when most mothers were still in the home and before the state offered daycare licensing. The idea of sending children to a child care provider was extremely controversial, Sullivan recalled, since opponents argued it encouraged women to leave their children.
