Chaska brick is our town’s pride and joy.
Homes, businesses and churches constructed from the locally produced cream-colored brick can be found throughout the metro area.
“The beauty of the brick work isn’t something that you see on any modern buildings. You don’t see it in any modern brick structures,” said mason Patrick Sieben.

The brick walls of Guardian Angels Catholic Church have protected its parishioners from the elements for 125 years. Now the parishioners hope to protect the walls from the elements.
“The skin of the church is peeling off like a bad sunburn,” said the Rev. Paul Jarvis, leader of the Guardian Angels parish.

At first the stable was empty. Then came lights and trees and straw and snow. Then the characters in the nativity scene at St. Nicholas Church in Carver began arriving, two at first, then several more.
It is the hope of parish members that the nativity scene will feature at least 12 near-life sized refurbished and professionally painted figures by Christmas Eve.
The St. John’s Lutheran Church steeple provided a backdrop as the Three Kings arrived on camels. St. John’s Lutheran Church presented three Live Nativity programs last Saturday. The presentations included an indoor program at the Chaska Community Center and two outdoor programs across from St. John’s in downtown Chaska (one in English and one in Spanish). The show included everything from a live baby Jesus to a choir to camels.

St. John’s Lutheran Church is holding a Live Nativity this Saturday, Dec. 19.
“Come share in the joy of the season and relive the wonderful birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Over 2000 years ago in the city of Bethlehem a child was born. I bring you good news of great joy. (Luke 2:10),” states a St. John’s news release.
There are actually three Live Nativity events, each 20 to 30 minutes. The first is indoors, at the Chaska Community Center, 1661 Park Ridge Drive. The event has limited space and is reserved for those unable to worship outdoors.
A statue of the Virgin Mary is carried by Guardian Angels Catholic Church parishioners during its annual Our Lady of Guadalupe procession last Sunday. The event commemorates the appearance of the Virgin Mary to Juan Diego, near Mexico City in December 1531. Our Lady of Guadalupe has been celebrated with an annual procession at Guardian Angels since 1999.
