It was an all-Chaska pitching matchup for the state amateur baseball tournament championship as Shakopee and Prior Lake met on Monday at Gaylord.

All Chaska pitcher Ryan Seifert did was keep up his string of dominant performances.

Seifert tossed a complete-game two-hitter as Shakopee topped Prior Lake 5-1. Shakopee, with draftee Seifert, won its first state title in exactly 50 years.

Seifert struck out eight and walked one to finish the state tournament with the Most Valuable Player award.

Cub draftees help temporary teams at state amateur tournament

The Chaska Cubs did not make the state amateur baseball tournament this season, for the first season in the past nine.

But that's not stopping some Cubbies from playing in the state tournament anyway.

Two Cub draftees finished games on the mound in the first round of the Class B state tourney at Gaylord and Arlington.

Cub pitcher Brad Keenan tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning for Prior Lake, as the Jays skipped past Plato 7-1 on Friday at Arlington.

A little rain didn’t stop families from descending upon the Chaska Community Center last Thursday night for the city’s annual Touch A Truck event.

The crowd gathered around excitedly as the Chaska Fire Department brought in one of their engines and pulled out the ladder and bucket. Kids lined up quickly to sneak a peek inside a Ridgeview Ambulance. And plenty oohed and ahhed over all the buttons to be pushed inside a Chaska Police cruiser.

Amateur baseball: Shakopee wins, Cubs out of state tournament

» Read similar stories filed under:

The Chaska Cubs hosted the state amateur baseball tournament in 1998 and again last year.

In the decade in between, the Cubs have missed playing in the state tourney only once.

This year, the Cubs are in unfortunately unfamiliar territory again.

Shakopee whalloped Chaska 7-1 on Friday at Schleper Field to nail down the final state-tournament spot in the Section 3B playoffs.

Shakopee scored in the second inning, again in the fourth, and added five more in an error-plagued eighth frame.

Amateur baseball: Chaska faces Shakopee on Friday for state trip

Shakopee, it is -

Chaska will play Shakopee at Schleper Field at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Winner goes to the state tournament. Loser watches from the stands at Arlington and Gaylord.

Shakopee tipped Victoria 4-3 in 11 innings on Wednesday night.

The winning run was scored when a Shakopee liner glanced off the Victoria pitcher's glove and deflected to the shortstop. The throw to first was in the dirt, which turned a possible third out in to the game's final play.
