Spooky Night on the Town is Oct. 28

Merchants in Chaska’s historic downtown are hosting the fourth annual “Spooky Night on the Town” from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 28.

The adult event is sponsored by eight locally owned Chaska businesses.

“Many of the shops are located in charming 19th century buildings within walking distance of each other, providing the perfect backdrop for a unique evening of fun,” stated organizer Donna Lund, in a press release.

Chaska Building Center concept withdrawn

It’s back to the drawing board for developers working on the Chaska Building Center site.

A concept plan for the eastern half of the development was withdrawn from the Chaska City Council’s agenda for Monday night after city staff warned that the plan was “not the direction the city wanted to go with the redevelopment of this site.”

Landscapers are busy planting shrubs and laying sod, as the state’s first freestanding emergency room readies for its February opening.

Two Twelve Medical Center will be much more than just an emergency room, though. The 163,000-square-foot building will house a number of primary and specialty clinics as well as imaging and research centers.

“The goal is to make this location a destination point in the southwest metro,” said Mike Phelps, vice president of diversified services and Ridgeview clinics.



New Hazeltine clubhouse on par

Hazeltine National Golf Club has long offered golfers a special experience on the links. Now the Chaska-based private club aims to do the same, rain or shine.

Last Thursday evening, Hazeltine gave its members their first look at their brand new state-of-the art clubhouse. Their response was overwhelmingly positive.

“Now the clubhouse matches the golf course,” said Ruth Lundquist, director of sales and marketing at Hazeltine. The clubhouse will have its official opening on Oct. 1.



Creating Fleet street: Carver subsidy may nudge Highway 212 development

The largest commercial development in the city of Carver’s history is under review.

A complicated proposal that is slated to be pieced together during the next several months would bring a Mills Fleet Farm store, Mills Gas Mart convenience store with gasoline pumps, and Mills Car Wash to a site near the northwest corner of Highway 212 and Jonathan Carver Parkway.

The proposal features a rare city subsidy to reimburse Mills Properties, Inc. for an estimated $1 million of its project costs.



Restaurant eyeing Chestnut building

The details are scarce so far, but according to City Administrator Matt Podhradsky, interest has been expressed in locating a new restaurant in the empty space at the northwest corner of Highway 41 and Second Street. The building was last occupied by Mi Casa.

The banquet space, in the lower level of the building, has recently been taken over by Grand Palms Event Center.

Anytime Fitness to lease space in Jonathan Square

Anytime Fitness has signed a lease for space in Jonathan Square, according to a press release.

Working with the Chaska Investments firm, Anytime Fitness will develop a 4,500 square foot exercise facility. With construction due to start immediately, the club will be open for business within the next 60 days, the release stated.
