BBQ in Chaska?

Pulled pork sandwiches, brisket and "fall off the bone" pork ribs may be headed to Chaska.

The Web site for Dickey's Barbecue Pit (www.dickeys.com) lists Chaska among six Twin Cities metro area locations "coming soon." A Dickey's is already open in Maple Grove.

The original Dickey's opened in Dallas in 1941. There are locations in 31 states across the U.S.

Four Chaska shops close their doors

Those looking to buy a bike, rent a movie, grab a toasted sandwich or feast on Mexican cuisine will now have a harder time doing it in Chaska.

Four Chaska businesses have closed since December, including Brickyard Bikes and Mi Casa in downtown Chaska and Quiznos and Movie Gallery in Chaska Commons.

City Administrator Matt Podhradsky said that Chaska is not alone in seeing businesses close in the community. “It’s across the board,” he said. “Something we’re seeing in general.”



Future of Chaska Snyders Drug Store up in the air

Walgreen Co. announced Tuesday that it will buy out all 25 company-owned Snyders Drug Stores in Minnesota, including the Chaska store.

Walgreens will acquire and continue to operate certain locations and staff most of those positions with Snyders employees, the company announced. Other Snyders stores will be closed, with Walgreens purchasing the prescription files and transferring them to nearby Walgreens pharmacies.



Super Buffet wins award

Chaska's Super Buffet has been named one of the country's top Chinese restaurants.

Winners in the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Six Annual Awards were announced during a three-day convention in in Las Vegas Jan. 3-5. The Chaska Commons eatery was recognized in the "best value" category. Other individual categories included "healthy," "local favorites," "buffet," and "best decor."

Fairview Jonathan Clinic is moving in February

Fairview Jonathan Clinic, which has been serving patients in the Chaska community for more than 20 years is moving to a new location in February 2010.

The new clinic will be located at 1447 White Oak Drive, approximately three blocks from the current clinic near the intersection of Highway 41 and White Oak Drive in Chaska. All three physicians, a nurse practitioner and existing services will be available at the new site including family medicine and sports medicine, according to a press release.

Last week’s snowstorm added an exclamation point a year that was already sludgy. Instead of barreling ahead, everyone was holed-up, waiting for the storm to pass.

Long gone are the days when Chaska was growing by a thousand people a year and houses were popping up like spring dandelions.

Instead, everyone – residents, politicians, business owners – were all coming to grips with the fact that cash just isn’t flowing into the coffers like it used to.

KleinBank is collecting food and donations for the CAP Agency.

Non-perishable food items and cash donations can be dropped off through Dec. 28 at any of these KleinBank locations: Chaska Downtown, 301 Chestnut Street; Chaska Commons, 120 Pioneer Trail; Chanhassen, 600 West 78th Street; and Victoria, 1630 Arboretum Boulevard.
