The Chaska Police Department is launching a new crime mapping service at CrimeReports.com.

According to the latest police news letter, to view a map of where Chaska Police Department activity is occurring, visit www.crimereports.com, enter an address, and choose the crimes you'd like mapped.

"You will see the map with icons specific to various incidents, and you may select any of them to see incident descriptions. The website also allows users the flexibility to sort by date, allowing users to pick specific time periods. The Chaska crime map is updated daily, and is very user friendly.

"The Chaska Police Department has been working with CrimeReports.com, a private vendor, to allow residents, prospective residents and our business community access to all types of police related incidents that occur in the City of Chaska. Incidents include all types of crimes, where traffic stops are occurring, where suspicious activity is occurring and much more. The data displayed is all public data.

"Two items of note – CrimeReports.com contracts with another private vendor to receive sex offender information from other states. The Chaska Police Department cannot by law, and does not, supply CrimeReports.com with any predatory offender information. Minnesota statute only allows public disclosure of predatory offenders that are considered a Risk Level 3 – the most likely to re-offend. Chaska has no Risk Level 3 offenders living in our city, at the present time. Because the information is coming from other states, it is not an accurate portrayal of predatory offenders living in Chaska.

"Also, the website uses a mapping application that locates a few Pioneer Tr and Chaska Blvd addresses at the wrong locations. The incident information and location descriptions are correct and CrimeReports.com expects to have the problem corrected soon. We chose to get this great tool to you as soon as possible and have faith that the few problematic locations will be corrected soon."
