Highway 41 could open by Monday morning

There is a chance Highway 41 in Chaska could reopen in time for Monday morning's commute.

According to a report from Scott County Emergency Management Director Chris Weldon, the state is making steady progress on fixing the damaged river crossing. Repairs on the shoulders are complete and crews are now concentrating on the slopes and pavement repairs.

The state had been estimating Highway 41 would repon Tuesday.

Chaska's Degler collects Triple-A Award

Ellen Degler is a triple threat, competing at an All Lake-Conference and All-State level in three sports at Chaska.

Not only that, the senior plays violin in orchestras and clarinet in the marching and concert bands, is active in 4-H and competing at the county and state fairs.

It makes sense than, that she collect an award to reflect her many talents.

Degler received the Triple-A Award for Region 2AA in an on-court ceremony at the state boys basketball tournament on March 27.

Chaska Cubs leadoff party set for Saturday, April 10

Athletic Park may be a little wet right now, but the Chaska Cubs amateur baseball team are planning for a long, successful summer full of fun.

The Cubs host their annual leadoff party from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 10 at the Chaska American Legion in downtown Chaska.

The team will serve free hot dogs, beans, chips and apple pie ala mode.

Sign up or renew a Cubs Dugout Club membership and receive a free T-shirt and passes to the Cubs home games, which include free popcorn and beverages.

It only took a few run-ins with some less-than-pedestrian-friendly vehicles for jogger Bob Moeller to launch a lifelong pursuit of safe trails for fellow Chaskans.

Today, his mission is focused on creating a trail connection between Chaska and Victoria, and linking both cities to the regional trail system. “The mental will to do it is there,” said Moeller.

Readying for the reopening

On Monday, commuters got the first piece of good news since the Minnesota River rose high enough to block roads last month.

After being closed for 19 days, the Carver County 11/Scott County 9 Minnesota River crossing near Jordan reopened to traffic at 3:30 p.m.

Tentative agreement would increase teacher contract $1.66 million over two years

On April 5, the Chaska Education Association negotiation team and the District 112 School Board reached a tentative settlement regarding the teacher’s two-year contract.

District 112 will be the last Twin Cities suburban school district to settle its 2009-10/2010-11 contract, according to Greg Abbott, media representative for the Minnesota School Boards Association.

Winsted administrator offered Carver job

At a special meeting Wednesday night, the Carver City Council offered its city administrator position to Brent Mareck, according to City Planner Cindy Nash

Mareck currently serves as Winsted city administrator.

A contract will be offered to Mareck today, April 8. If he accepts, Nash anticipates that his start date would be “sometime in May.” The specific start date will be left open to negotiation between Mayor Jim Weygand and Mareck.
