Hand gets second minor-league start

Chaska lefthanded pitcher Brad Hand got the start on Friday for the Marlins against the Nationals in minor-league baseball action in Florida's Gulf Coast League.

Hand cruised through the first two innings, before running into trouble in the third.

Hand allowed two hits and three runs, but just one was earned. He also struck out three. He has fanned eight and walked three over 6-2/3 innings in two starts and a relief appearance for the Rookie-League Marlins, with nine hits and 11 runs (eight earned). His ERA is 10.80.

Pitchers such as Hand, in his first pro season, are often on strict pitch counts and rarely throw more than a few innings per outing.
