Day three in the Everson murder trial continued with jury selection Thursday. Slowly but surely, prosecution and defense attorneys are whittling down the original pool of 99 jurors to a slim 15.
Attorneys individually questioned 15 jurors during the morning and early afternoon, ultimately dismissing eight.
More than one prospective juror admitted to feeling very uncomfortable deciding a young man's future.
"I realize (his age) shouldn't matter whatsoever," said one juror. "But it does."
If convicted of the charges, Grant Everson could face a life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Everson is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his mother Nancy Everson and second-degree murder in the attempted killing of his father Tom Everson.
The latter part of the court session Thursday afternoon was spent talking casually with the rest of the jury pool. There are about 55 prospective jurors left.
Defense attorneys got to know 38 of the possible jurors personally and cut some of the tension in the room by asking them what their favorite part of the day was. Answers ranged from toddlers climbing into the bed in the morning to solving a problem at work to watching the sunset each night.
Both the defense and prosecution will continue to talk with the entire jury pool Friday in an attempt to select the jurors that will ultimately hear Everson's case.
Attorneys also indicated that, while nothing is guaranteed, they expect the trial to last roughly three weeks. At least the first week will be shortened with the Thanksgiving holiday affording only three working days.
