Chaska pitcher Brad Hand finished Wednesday’s baseball game at Rosemount with 10 strikeouts, and hit a first-inning home run.

But a trio of late-inning runs kept the Hawks from winning the game.

The Irish scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to prevail 3-2. It was the first loss for Hand on the season.

Chaska took the lead immediately, as leadoff hitter Cory Glieden reached on an error and Hand blasted his fifth home run of the season.

Rosemount hurler Blake Schwartz snapped back by striking out the next three Hawks. Schwartz struck out 13 in all and walked three, while giving up just three hits.

The pitching duel was on, as Rosemount’s Dylan Porter led off the game with a double and Ben Lemke followed with the first of the Irish’s six walks in the game. Hand then struck out the next three batters.

The Hawks had a chance to score in the third inning, as Dan Meyer was hit by a pitch and went to third on a single by Hand. But Schwartz got Adam Peterson to strike out, and Hand was caught attempting to steal second base to end the inning.

The Irish got on the board in the fifth inning, drawing three walks and scoring on a passed ball.

Rosemount won it with a seventh-inning rally. Blair Hansen drew a leadoff walk and Chris Komorouski singled, with both runners taking an extra base on an outfield error. Porter singled to load the bases and Lemke brought two runs home with a single.

It was the Hawks’ third loss in a row, after falling 6-3 to Burnsville on May 9 and 1-0 to Apple Valley on Monday.

Chaska (11-7 overall, 10-7 Lake Conference) has a rematch against Burnsville on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Alimagnet Park.

The Hawks finish the regular season with a 7 p.m. game Saturday against Mayer Lutheran at Athletic Park.

The Section 2-3A playoffs begin on May 23 with subsection games and runs through June 4.
