Cereal nostalgia: 20 crazy cereal creations

This morning I ate a bowl of Grape Nuts. Now before you go on and on about how mature I am and how great it is to get your day started with a bowl of fiber, I'll confess that yesterday I had a bowl of Peanut Butter Captain Crunch (I realize I am among a small minority of people who enjoy this roof-of-your-mouth-grenade goodie).

I love cereal - all different kinds of it. I think this stems from my mother's lack of imagination when it came to purchasing cereals as I grew up. I still have NO desire to start my day with Corn Flakes and Cheerios are still a last resort option.

That being said, I got a kick out of Asylum's [1] list of the 20 craziest cereals [2] ever created. I only recognized King Vitaman among the bunch, but I'm still bewildered by some of the names and concepts (not to mention horrendous spelling and an odd fixation with arms-bearing mascots).

Crunchy Loggs? I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with the writer on this one and admit that I don't ever look at tree trunks that way.

Corn Flakes with Instant Bananas? Ummm, no thank you - there is nothing a'peal'ing about that whatsoever.

Mr. Wonderfull's Surprize? I can say with 100% confidence that my mom was never going to let me or my sister start the day with anything offering a creamy chocolate filling.

And Wackies look like the breakfast equivalent of Chex Mix.

Take a look through the list and see what you think.

TELL US: Is there a cereal you think should be on the list? Have you tried any of these gems? What's the wackiest cereal you've noshed on? What discontinued cereal do you wish was back on the market?
