A second individual has been charged with violating the city of Chaska’s new social host ordinance.

Mario Ruano Rodriquez, 52, of Chaska, was charged with gross misdemeanor furnishing alcohol to minors and misdemeanor violation of the social host ordinance, according to a Chaska Police Department press release.

The charges resulted from further investigation into a Dec. 16 juvenile drinking party, which had resulted in citations against three juveniles for underage drinking, providing alcohol to a minor, and violating the social host ordinance.

The new social host ordinance makes it illegal for anyone to knowingly provide a place for underage drinking to occur. Chaska was the first city in the state to pass the ordinance in September.

“The officer that originally investigated the case received additional information on Dec. 19,” stated Chaska Det. Sgt. Jon Kehrberg, in a press release. “The officer investigated the additional allegations and obtained surveillance video of an adult homeowner actually purchasing the alcohol,” Kehrberg said.

“Having initially denied any knowledge of the juvenile drinking party, Ruano Rodriguez admitted to police that he purchased the alcohol for the juveniles, friends of his stepson, and that he thought it was safe and supervised that they drink at his residence,” alleged the press release.
