Chaska residents Randal and Janet Giroux couldn't resist giving Minnesota Twins t-shirts to the heroes that helped deliver their twin daughters one year ago.
Chaska Police Officer Josh Lawrenz along with fire fighters Scott Bradley, Brad Stene, Bruce Schueing, Jeff Lenzen and Mike Jernander were honored by the Giroux family Monday night.
All six men were on hand when Allie and Brooke decided to arrive earlier than their parents were expecting them. Both girls were born on September 26, 2006. Allie was born at home with the help of dad and Lawrenz.
"I was just glad to have someone there with me to help make sure Allie was alright," said Randal Giroux.
The Giroux's other children, Taylor, 14, and Corey, 9, remember the commotion of that morning - the orders from mom to dad to call 9-1-1, the sound of a baby crying, the noise of several strange men talking in the hallway outside their room and finally a peek at their new little sister, wrapped in bath towels and headed into an ambulance.
The second twin, Brooke, was born 48 minutes later at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
The babies, weighing in at around four and a half pounds, were kept at Ridgeview for three and a half weeks due to their prematurity.
"Both girls are healthy and thriving, so on their first birthday, we not only wanted to celebrate this double miracle, but also wanted to thank both the Chaska Police and Fire Department personnel who helped ensure these two precious girls came to no harm," said Giroux.
"For their quick response, dedication and expertise, these men are, and always will be the home-run heroes of our Twin Cities girls," he added.
