The Irish Fair is this weekend on Harriet Island in St. Paul. For those of you that haven't been, it's a great time.
I went for the first time several years ago and have since missed every opportunity to go back. When I went, it was a beautiful evening, the admission was free and Flogging Molly performed to a full crowd.
We drank (psuedo) Irish beer, ate tasty Irish food, listened to Irish music and generally got caught up in all the greatness that is the Irish culture.
While we tapped our toes to the sounds of Flogging Molly, a man in front of us waved a giant flag of Ireland. The crowd sang along and it was generally fantastic. The Irish blood that flows in my veins was in heaven.
This year Gaelic Storm will perform. You may not recognize the name, but you'll recognize their music from Titanic (they were the band that performed below deck with the third-class passengers).

The Irish Fair is THE thing...

The Irish Dancers are one of my favorite parts of it (especially the little girl ones, with their curly-haired wigs and shiny costumes! They're sooo adorable!), and they make numerous performances. Seriously, check them out if you go!
For the animal lovers they usually have a tent with Irish dog breeds. Check out the Irish Wolf Hounds, they're huge! They also have herding demonstrations which are pretty fun to watch.
There's tons more, and it's worth it. The music and the food (try the Soda Bread for a true Irish experience!) are great. Have a good time if you go! Wish I didn't live out of state right now! :)
The soda bread is...
Back to page topThe soda bread is incredible. But I do wish they had REAL Irish beer rather than the pseudo variety. What's up with Summit beer at an Irish festival, anyway?
