I love British comedies. That dry sense of humor is right up my alley. So when I got the chance to attend a screening of "Death at a Funeral," I jumped at it.
"Death at a Funeral" is the story of one family trying to send off their father with a bit of dignity only to do just the opposite. It stars Mathew McFayden (Mark Darcy in the latest reincarnation of "Pride and Prejudice") and a host of other British actors you have undoubtedly seen before (though you may not know them by name).
What I love most about this movie is that it takes a simple activity - a funeral - and sticks with it, allowing the characters to shine. Plot points- a mysterious little person, an irritating uncle, and a troublesome bottle of pills- are sprinkled steadily and tied together nicely at the end.
This movie is nothing new or earth shattering, but if you find yourself tired of big action blockbusters, "Death at a Funeral" will be a welcome retreat come August (its slated release date).
It's full of laughs - most raunchy - but set at a charming English manor with the usual cast of the repressed British characters - the raunchiness only adds to the humor (and helps loosen up the tightly wound).
