Gov. Tim Pawlenty and First Lady Mary Pawlenty announced that the Governor’s Residence in St. Paul opens to the public for tours beginning today, Tuesday, June 12.
This year, tours of the residence are held the last three Tuesdays of each month during June, July and August.
“The residence belongs to the people of Minnesota,” stated Pawlenty, in a press release. “The First Lady and I invite Minnesotans to visit this marvelous place.”
The residence was originally designated as the State Ceremonial Building for official public use and as a governor’s residence in 1965, after it was donated to the state of Minnesota by the Horace Hills Irvine family. “We are deeply grateful to the Irvine family,” Mary Pawlenty said. “Olivia Irvine Dodge has been so gracious to our state, generously giving Minnesota her family home that holds such precious memories.”
Those wishing to schedule a group tour of 15 or more people should call (651) 297-2161. Tours run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., are free of charge and are guided by the Docents of the Minnesota Historical Society Women’s Organization. A photo ID is required for admittance.
