Group lobbies to repair Capitol

A push is on to garner funds to repair and update the Minnesota Capitol building.

According to the Minnesota State Capitol Restoration Project, the restoration would address: “critical deficiencies and future needs in the building's infrastructure, accessibility, security and code compliance. Code deficiencies that would be addressed include life-safety, exits, fire and smoke alarms, fire sprinklers, fresh air requirements and restroom facilities.”

The project is slated to cost millions. For more information, click here.

Throughout the capitol’s construction, over 100 years ago, Chaska had close connections to its design and building materials.

Prominent Chaska banker George DuToit would serve on the Board of State Capitol Commissioners, responsible for overseeing the building's design and construction.

The Chaska brickyards, the town’s primary industry, would supply millions of bricks for the Capitol.
