Transfers

The latest hot topic at the capital is the High School League wanting to change the rules on transfers.
The biggest problem as stated by some is the athlete within the 3 most tranfered sports-Hockey, Basketball and Wrestling.
Should a student be able to transfer to another school just so they will get more playing time, thus taking time away from an athlete who came up through the system?
One coach was on radio today saying in his opinion the parents are the ones that are brokering the deals, often thinking their son/daughter will get a better shot at college money for that particular sport by transfering schools.
In Shakopee, a teacher's daughter transfered to another school so she would get more playing time on their basketball team.
I'm sure that went over well with the other teachers.
Is it that big a problem out here in the burbs?
I know of a couple of instances in both Chaska and Shakopee where kids transfered just for the sport, even though the same was offered at their school.
Are we not sending the wrong message to the students and schools by saying academics isn't all that important, but playing on a winning team sure is?
