Southwest Christian volleyball dominates, soccer teams fall

Southwest Christian’s girls’ soccer team fell 3-1 to St. Paul Academy in the first round of the Section 5A tournament on Thursday. SWC ended its season 6-9-2 overall. Southwest Christian’s boys’ team also finished its season with a 2-1 Section 5A loss Thursday at Minneapolis Washburn. The Stars were 9-7 on the season. Volleyball dominates The Southwest Christian volleyball team dominated Trinity at River Ridge of Bloomington about as much as a volleyball team can dominate. The Stars won 25-3, 25-16, 25-5 for its seventh match win in a row. Emily Palkert led the offense with 10 kills and four blocks, while Cassie Haag gad six kills and a team-high eight serving aces. Jen Berglund served six aces, Annika Avery had four kills and five aces and Laura Cardle had three kills, three serving aces and dished out 21 set assists. The Stars won the MCAA title with a 10-0 mark and are 16-4 overall going into the final regular-season match Monday at Dassel-Cokato. The Stars finish the regular season next weekend at the Sartell-St. Stephen Tournament.
