The Chaska Cubs are winning their share of ‘must-win’ games as the state amateur baseball qualifying tournament draws closer.
Chaska righthander Ryan Seifert struck out nine while tossing a seven-hit shutout in a 3-0 blanking of Section 3B rival Jordan on Sunday.

Chaska has now pulled ahead of Jordan for the race to the top seed in the 3B tournament, with a 6-2 mark. Jordan fell to 7-3, with Shakopee at 7-4, Green Isle at 4-3 and Victoria and Prior Lake at 2-8.
The Cubs had two hits at the Mini-Met, but drew seven walks from Brewer hurlers. Matt Lane had the big hit of the evening, smacking a pinch-hit, two-run double in the top of the ninth inning. Troy Harlander and Chris Brown scored on the two-bagger.
Chaska, now 15-4 on the season after their fourth consecutive win, hosts Gaylord at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Athletic Park. It is also Southwest Eye Care Night.
Chaska’s two losses against 3B teams were a 2-0 defeat at Green Isle on May 23 and a 9-3 loss to Shakopee at home on June 10. The Cubs have two victories over Jordan and Prior Lake, and one over Victoria.
The Cubs have had a pair of games with Green Isle rained out this season. Rescheduled dates were set for July 12 at Athletic Park, following the Cubs’ game against Hadley that begins at 1 p.m., and July 15 at Green Isle.
Spam Town Challenge
The Cubs then head to Austin to take on some top competition at the Spam Town Challenge on Friday.
Two Minnesota clubs and two out-of-state teams are in each pool. Chaska is in Pool A with the Austin Greyhounds, the Brookings, S.D. Cubs, and the Eagle Valley, Ill. Eagles.
Chaska plays Austin at 7 p.m. on Friday at Marcusen Park. There are seven other games taking place on Friday at three venues: Marcusen Park, Riverland 1 and 2 and Dartt Park.
The Cubs then play Brookings at Riverland Field 1 at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and follow with a game against Eagle Valley at 6 p.m. at Riverland 2.
The winners of the four pools then play for the title on Sunday.
Board meeting here on July 12
The regular board meeting of the Minnesota Baseball Association will take place July 12 at the Chaska Legion Post 57 in downtown Chaska. The meeting starts at 1 p.m., with the regular board meeting set for 3 p.m.
The state amateur tournament is coming to Chaska and Shakopee, beginning on Aug. 14.
