Crime alert: vehicle break-ins

» Read similar stories filed under:

Information provided by the Carver County sheriff's Office:

During the past few days, Waconia citizens have experienced motor vehicle break ins where small, easily concealed electronic items such as: IPods, GPS devices, MP3 player, etc. were taken.

In each case, the vehicles were parked in the homeowner’s driveway. According to the owners, the vehicles were locked at the time of the theft and there was no damage to the vehicle.

Within our contract communities there have been several vehicle break ins since the beginning of 2009:

Chanhassen 12

New Germany 1

Waconia 8

Norwood YA 3

Watertown 3

Laketown Twp 1

Please report any suspicious activity in your area by calling the dispatch center non-emergency number at 952-361-1231.

It is once again important to note … DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR VEHICLE. Persons inclined to take these items from vehicles are well aware of all of the "hiding places." We each must take responsibility for our losses. It is also important to note that many insurance companies do not cover losses of personal property taken from vehicles. Most vehicle insurance companies will only cover losses relating to the vehicle itself (i.e. stereos, CD players, vehicle equipment, etc.).

If you have information related to these vehicle break ins, or any crime, please contact the Carver County Sheriff’s Office at 952-361-1212. After hours contact 952-361-1231 or to remain anonymous, call the TIP line at 952-361-1224, or access our On-Line Tip Form at:

If you notice someone:

Loitering by vehicles

Looking into vehicles

Checking vehicle doors/windows

Appearing out of place

Acting suspicious

Call CCSO Dispatch by dialing the non-emergency number: 952-361-1231, to report the suspicious activity/incident.
