Funeral set for Friday in death of Chaska boy

Joshua Damptey was a student that everyone looked up to, noted his fifth-grade teacher, Rob Gooding.

The 10-year-old Oak Point Intermediate student died Friday afternoon after collapsing during run club.

“He seemed to enjoy everything he was involved with,” Gooding said.

Gooding described Joshua as caring, very responsible, and as a person with a high level of integrity.

James A. Boll, 78, of Waconia, passed away on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius. Visitation was Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the St. Boniface gathering space and one hour prior to the mass at church.

Volleyball: Chaska falls in Runestone tournament title match

The Chaska volleyball team reached the championship of the 14th annual Runestone Classic Tournament in Alexandria, only to be upset by the host team in a tiebreaker.

The Hawks cruised through pool play, topping Moorhead 25-11, 25-11; Renville County West 25-5, 25-17 and Perham 25-8, 25-16.

The host team then dug in against the Hawks, taking the first game 26-24. Chaska struck back 25-21 in the second game, but Alex took it home with a 15-10 tiebreaker victory.

Chaska's Katie Mattson won two matches in the North subsection tournament on Saturday to earn a spot in Tuesday's singles finals.
