April 28, 2008 - 9:12am

Sean Bloomfield and Colton Witte reach the Minnesota River railroad bridge in Carver on Monday morning, about an hour after leaving Chaska. The duo plans to canoe to the Hudson Bay, on a 70-day journey, via the Minnesota River, Red River, Lake Winnipeg, Nelson River and the Hayes River. Eric Sevareid, a Minnesota journalist icon, inspired the pair's trip with his book "Canoeing with the Cree." The book chronicled a 1930 canoe trip to the Hudson Bay that Sevareid took with another teenager.

The timing of their trip is appropriate, since Sevareid was recently honored with a U.S. postage stamp: www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/2007/sr07_043.htm
