It was a tough day for Chaska soccer teams on Saturday.
The Hawk boys soccer team came very close to upsetting No. 1 seed Eden Prairie in the playoffs, the girls' soccer team saw its season end to the top-rated team in the state.
Chaska had the underdog label going into the Section 2AA semifinals Saturday morning at Eden Prairie. But the fifth-seeded Hawks played the Eagles very tough a month ago, but played even tougher in the playoffs.
The Hawks and Eagles played scoreless most of the game, but EP's Alex Wittig put one on the board with around 6 minues left in the second half. The Hawks answered with an equalizer with just 130 seconds left in the game.
But the Eagles reached the finals with a Omeed Berenjian goal in overtime.
Chaska finished the season 9-7-3 overall, for perhaps its best season ever. EP (15-1-4 overall) advances to the finals to face Bloomington Jefferson, which dispatched Edina 1-0 on Saturday.
The Hawk girls soccer team had an equally tall order on Saturday in its 2AA semifinal at top-rated and No. 1 seed Edina.
The Hornets had allowed eight goals in 16 season games, and kept their stingy ways to win 6-1. Edina advanced to Tuesday's title game against No. 2 seed Eden Prairie, which shut out Bloomington Jefferson 3-0 on Saturday.
Chaska's team finished 8-10-1 on the season.
