Expect a large crowd of dance fans at the Chaska-Lakeville North football game at 7 p.m. tonight for the entertainment double bill at halftime, taking place on the new artificial turf field at Chaska High School.
It will include the Chaska Hawks Fall Dance Club, coming off last season as the State Champion runners-up, and the Hawks Youth Clinic Dancers mixing it up.
Fifty area girls in first through seventh grades trained at the summer Hawks Youth Dance Clinic with veteran Chaska Hawk dancers. The four-session clinic is under the direction of Chaska varsity dance head coach Kris Rydland, and it is a yearly tradition offered through the Chaska Parks and Recreation Department.
“I worked with the third graders and have three of them for my ‘little sis’s’ for the performance,” Chaska sophomore dancer Anna Janson said. She added that every group developed a special stunt or skill to display at the end of their routine tonight.
All 50 campers and their high school mentors from the dance clinic will be grooving their way to a mix of “Sneakernight” by Vanessa Hudgens, “Hey, Batter, Swing” from High School Musical II, and “Umbrella” by Rihanna. Also, the dancers will be using umbrellas as their props.
Also breaking out at football half-time show will be the 49-member strong Chaska Hawks Dance. The group performed together for the first time last night at Chaska High School’s open house.
“We’re using mixes ‘Hyphy,’ ‘It’s Like That,’ and ‘Shabam,’ for a blend of hip-hop and high kick for a really fun dance,” said Chaska Dance Club fall head coach Liz Ehresman.
“This is a really high energy routine that blends lots of cool skills and moves,” tri-captain Emily Hassenstab said. “I think the strong beat will pump up the crowd and our football team, too.”
