Eden Prairie's third-ranked girls swimming and diving team topped Chaska 100-80 on Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Chaska Middle School pool.

It was a record-setting evening as Eden Prairie visited Chaska for a Lake Conference girls swim meet at Chaska Middle School East on Thursday.

The Eagles bettered three long-standing pool records in a 104-80 victory.

Eden Prairie’s Rachel Bootsma set a Chaska pool record in the 100 freestyle race, winning in 52.25 seconds. The time eclipsed former Hawk swimmer Denby Johnson’s time of 54.41, set back in 1992.

The Eagles started the meet with a pool record-setting 200 medley relay swim. Bootsma, Stephanie Solfelt, Meghan Cummings and Claire Ritzen swam 1:48.82. The record was nearly four seconds better than the 1997 record, also set by EP.

The Eagles also bagged the 200 freestyle relay record, as Bootsma, Cummings, Solfelt and Jess Padniewski swam 1:42.06 to win the event. That mark also topped a 1997 pool record, also set by EP.

Eden Prairie’s Kris Rapp has the oldest record on the board, with a 57.46 mark in the 100 butterfly in 1984.

Chaska’s Brooke Zhorne won the 100 backstroke event with a swim of 1:04.73.

Megan Knudson added a second consecutive event victory for the Hawks with drama by edging Katie Bootsma in the 100 breaststroke. Knudson finished in 1:11.76, with Bootsma swimming 1:11.82.

The Hawks finished the meet with a first-place swim in the 400 freestyle relay. Gaulke-Janowski, Sam Getty, Lauren Johnson and Rachel Bailey swam 3:51.15.

Chaska switched venues for Tuesday’s Lake Conference dual against Lakeville South and North. The Hawks swam at Kenwood Trail Middle School after a malfunction drained the CMS East pool overnight on Monday.

The Hawks fared well on the impromptu trip to swim what constitutes a doube-dual meet.

After the scores were parsed out, Lakeville South topped the Hawks 96-88, and Lakeville North won 99-87.

Gaulke-Janowski took first place in the 100 freestyle with a swim of 55.86. The time is just 1-1/2 seconds off the state cut time. She also swam second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.86.

Getty swam 1:03.81 to finish first in the 100 backstroke, and was second in the 200 IM with 2:15.90.

Zhorne took first place for the Hawks in the 100 butterfly, swimming 1:03.90.

Getty, Knudson, Zhorne and Gaulke-Janowski teamed to take second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.94.

Knudson swam third in the 100 breaststroke with 1:12.81, and Katharine Lowrey was the top Hawk in the 500 freestyle with a swim of 5:42.36.

Rachel Bailey took fourth in the 50 freestyle sprint for the Hawks in 27.27, and Erin Sattervall was fourth in diving with 154.65 points.

Chaska has the True Team section meet scheduled for Saturday at Edina’s Art Downey Pool, the site of the Section 6AA meet.

If the Middle School East pool is functioning properly, the Hawks host Eagan on Tuesday.
