Al Franken appears to have lost one vote in yesterday’s Carver County U.S. Senate race recount. (Check the Secretary of State’s Web site for updates).
About 40 Carver County voting officials, overseen by representatives from Franken and Sen. Norm Coleman’s campaigns, are recounting the votes in Carver County Government Center training room. As of last night, the crew had counted 13 of Carver County’s 34 precincts, or about 40 percent of the total votes. A total of four votes had been challenged as of yesterday evening.
On Wednesday afternoon, Laurie Engelen, deputy recount official, estimated that the recount would last through Thursday, possibly Friday morning.
The ballots are being counted at four tables, with about nine people at each table, and DFL and GOP reps overseeing both the sorting of the ballots, and the counting of the ballots.

Back to page topThe Carver County recount is over, according to the Secretary of State Web site.
Both candidates lost votes in the recount -- apparently due in part to the 30 ballots pulled from the count to bring to the State Canvassing Board.
There were 26,966 votes counted for Coleman on Nov. 4. Following the recount there are 26,950. (A loss of 16 votes.)
There were 14,102 votes counted for Franken on Nov. 4. Following the recount, there are 14,094. (A loss of 8 votes.)
The recount of "all other ballots," was 8,724.
However, as noted, the recounts don't include challenged ballots -- which are not counted until a judgement is made by the State Canvassing Board.
There were 20 votes for Coleman (and other ballots) challenged by Franken and 10 votes for Franken (and other ballots) challenged by Coleman.
Of those challenged ballots by Franken, 10 came from Victoria Precinct 2.
