Thanks for the reminder! It usually takes me about two months to reset every clock in the house and car. I'm excited for more sunlight and summer!

Fire safety officials also note that people should change the battery in their fire detector when they move their clocks ahead.

“Statistically, working smoke alarms cut your chance of dying in a fire by at least half. Changing the batteries takes about one minute, so that’s a big potential return on a very small investment,” said Minnesota Fire Marshal Jerry Rosendahl.

Imagine my surprise on Sunday when, after an hourlong walk ending about 4:15 p.m., I was able to start some laundry and do a few other chores before sitting down to watch a 7 p.m. show on TV with my neighbor and it wasn't yet dark out!

I guess I don't have to rush those outdoor activities for a while again (not that I was doing laundry outside)!

Even more surprising was that I remembered the time change and didn't miss church (that's thanks to the dogs waking me up at 3:30 a.m. -- according to the bedroom clock -- to go outside and me seeing that the clock on the DVR was at 4:30 a.m.). And my husband thought he still had half an hour to sleep when I got up again at 8:30/9:30 and the clock was still not reset. Tee hee!

Top five reasons I'm happy about the time change even though we lost an hour of sleep:

5. I don't have to race home from work to get my dog out for a walk or a dog-park visit before dark;

4. The clock in my car is now actually the correct time, so I don't have to subtract an hour every time I look at it (I never could figure out how to change that clock);

3. We can actually see our neighbors again as we come and go;

2. The extra hour of daylight already has improved my mood; and

1. "Spring forward" includes the word "spring," which brings with it the promise of an end to the snow and cold and seasonal affective doldrums we've endured. Break out the barbecue and the flip flops - it's going to be 40 soon!

The grills are already out!

While I was pounding pavement yesterday, I thought it was funny that I could hear snowmobiles off in the distance and smell meat on the grill at two junctures of my 4-mile jaunt.

I felt warmth -- WARMTH -- on the back of my neck from the sun this afternoon.

Please come back summer. I'll never take you for granted again. Well, until late August anyway.

Spring has sprung, it seems! I'm lovin' the 45-degree temps. It feels tropical...isn't that pathetic?!?
