Diaper drive under way for quints

A Shakopee woman has started a diaper drive for the quintuplets born Oct. 15 to a Sartell, Minn., couple.

Netta and Jason Hodgkins of Shakopee are aunt and uncle to the quintuplets – Netta is the sister of the babies’ father, Rory Mrozek. He and his wife, Jessie, became the parents of the five babies – Jackson Nelson, Lainey Ann, Matthew James, Breah Lynn and Nathan Dean – via emergency Caesarean section between 7:45 and 7:57 a.m. on that Thursday at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

The babies, born at 28 weeks gestation, weigh between 1 pound, 15 ounces and 2 pounds, 10 ounces. Each baby is between 12 and 14 inches long and all are said to be doing well, with four of the five taken off their ventilators.

Three are said to be breathing by CPAP (an non-invasive method of keeping the lungs open while pushing air into them), Lainey is on a ventilator and Breah Lyn is breathing on her own.

Jessie has been released from the hospital but plans to stay in the area to be close to the quints since they are not expected to go home for a few months.

Netta said the family is grateful for all the diaper donations and prayers received already.

The family is accepting Pampers products only because that is what they are currently using and doctors have advised it would be best not to change brands due to skin sensitivity.

The babies are currently wearing preemie-size diapers, and Pampers-brand sensitive wipes, Swaddlers and Cruisers, also are being accepted.

Additionally, a fund has been set up at Wells Fargo banks for the babies. Donations can be made to the Mrozek Quintuplet Trust at any branch.
