It's severe weather week

No votes yet

Emergency managers throughout the state are planning educational activities and disaster exercises during Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota (April 21-24).

This annual observance is designed to encourage citizens to prepare emergency plans both in the workplace and in their own homes for the upcoming severe weather season.

On Thursday, April 24 (Drill Day), sirens in all nine metro area counties will be sounded two times – once at 1:45 p.m. for businesses, schools and other facilities to conduct their plans, and again at 6:55 p.m., for late shifts and families in their homes.

Families are encouraged to plan where to take shelter, and what items to have available. At the sound of the siren, residents should move their family to the shelter for a few minutes and review their actions.

For more information about severe weather safety, contact Carver County Risk/Emergency Management at (952) 361-1528.

Monday's theme is thunderstorms. And given today's forecast, I hope Wednesday, Thursday and Friday don't also live up to their subject matter.
