This holiday weekend will be full of patriotic fun and events on Saturday.
The Jonathan Association homeowners group will kick off its Fourth of July Saturday morning with a 5K fun run/walk on Jonathan trails, with registration at 8 a.m. and the run kicking off at 8:30 a.m.
At 11 a.m., the Jonathan Association will host its annual Fourth of July kiddie parade. Children of all ages are encouraged to don their patriotic best and decorate their bikes, wagons, scooters, etc. The parade, about a quarter mile long, begins at Jonathan General Store and concludes at the Karen House.
Children can enjoy a host of activities after the parade at the Karen House including pony rides, face painting, a petting zoo, sack races, watermelon eating contest, bean bag toss, a balloon artist and Magician Bruce Cleland.
At dusk, the city of Chaska holds a fireworks display. Ten thousand dollars worth of fireworks will be shot off thanks in part to $6,000 in donations from the community. The city will make up the difference.
City Administrator Matt Podhradsky said that donations were slightly down this year, but promised a great show nonetheless. “The fireworks will still be awesome,” he said. The show will begin at dusk with the best viewing at McKnight Park or in the Chaska Commons parking lot.
